The way that you say I in spanish is yo. It's called the yo form of everything! So for example in this sentence you say:
yo lo hice = I did it
and Soy = I am
and then in another sentence if your saying I like, you say Me gusta...
and really it mean, this pleases me. smile

Estoy= I am
Soy= I am
Tengo- I have.
I think Estoy is more of a temporary version to Ser- You might say Estoy Feliz (I am happy) but obviously it's not permanent. Or you might say Soy Rubia (I am blonde) which is obviously more permanent smile
