I just found a new definition for religion in Hans Christian Andersenin's Fairy Tales Told for Children. Titled " The Emperor's New Clothes". This is a story a lot of us read in primary school but for the sake of those who may not remember or have not heard the story, let me give a brief narrative summary.

The story is about two weavers who promise an emperor a new suit of clothes that is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent. A vain Emperor who cares about nothing except wearing and displaying clothes hires two weavers who promise him the finest, best suit of clothes from a fabric invisible to anyone who is unfit for his position or "hopelessly stupid". The Emperor's ministers cannot see the clothes themselves but pretend that they can for fear of appearing unfit for their positions and the Emperor does the same. Finally, the weavers report that the suit is finished, they mime dressing him and the Emperor marches in procession before his subjects. The townsfolk play along with the pretense, not wanting to appear unfit for their positions or stupid. No one dares to say that he does not see any suit of clothes until a child in the crowd, too young to understand the desirability of keeping up the pretense, cries out, " But he is not wearing anything at all! " and the cry is taken up by others. The Emperor suspects the assertion is true but continues the procession.

Now, this story has been retold for many years in many ways and in many languages but I am only realizing its moral background now. It all boils down to one word, and the word is " RELIGION ". A lot of people believe and follow different religions not because they see or experience any power of the divine but because everyone else believes and they do not want to be left out. Popular culture and the desire to be accepted by society is what drives a lot of believers. And every once in a while, an atheist cries out " stop this folly! " but mankind is so grossly engulfed in their pretense to pay any attention.

I think it is high time people opened their eyes and saw the world for what it truly is and always have been. Organized religion is nothing but a mind control tool used by religious leaders and political entities for their own selfish gains and personal satisfaction. Which is why it is easier to build mega churches and mosques rather than build mega homeless homes for the world's ever growing homeless and refugees. Buying Private jets as opposed to feeding millions of starving kids in North Africa or the Waring Middle East.

You know what, I'm just gonna stop right here. Mankind still has a few hundred years to spend under this terrible spell anyways. Atheists are just rather unfortunate people born a couple hundred years before their time.
